Hi Beam Community! My name is Millie and I am the proud mum of four wonderful children. I am so excited to launch my campaign with Beam!
Let me tell you a bit about what I love to do in my spare time. I love playing games with my girls, especially competitions. We have reading competitions, best cupcake-maker challenges, or home cleaning challenges where we compete to see who can clean their rooms the fastest (a great game for any child to learn..😂 ). In my own time, I also love developing my IT skills by creating posters, invitation cards, business cards and similar other things.
Looking at my life, I have had to overcome many challenges to become the person I am today. Having the strength to break up with my ex-partner who used to abuse me physically, morally, emotionally and financially, has made me a better person. It's not easy raising four young children all alone. My children's welfare and wellbeing are my top priority in my life. I used to be a council tenant of a two bedroom flat which was too small for my large family. I tried to apply for a bigger house with my family through the council but was unsuccessful so I decided to save up myself to rent a private accommodation. In 2013, after a lot of work, I was finally able to rent a bigger house where each child had their own bedroom. For a while, we were very happy.
The biggest challenge I ever had to deal with and overcome was the death of my father. On Friday 31st of March 2017, I phoned my father around 8 30pm in order to plan our Easter family dinner together as usual. My father told me to stop by on Monday to finish planning. Sadly that same night as my father was in his bedroom getting ready for work, my siblings noticed that he was taking longer than usual to get ready so they went to check on him. Tragically, my dad was found dead. As first child of 9, and a single mother of 4 children, I really found the situation upsetting and challenging. I felt I would never recover from this shock. Since then, I am worked hard to feel better and to process my grief.
Recently, the lives of my children and I were completely uprooted. In October 2021, my house windows were broken twice in a space of two days by unknown individuals who threw large bricks at my house. The police, social services and the council stepped in and immediately removed my family from London to a different city which resulted in the lost of my job. I am now starting again from scratch to build my life up. As a single mother in a new area, it is challenging but I have an unyielding serenity and ambition that I can make a better future for my family and myself...and I am ready to put in my best to achieve my dreams.
My dream is to complete my masters degree in social work but as life has recently changed due to this safeguarding incident, I want to work as a remote customer service advisor while I reorganise myself on how to further my education and support my family. I have excellent experience in customer service and possess great communication skills. I wish to continue to put those qualities into practice as a remote customer service advisor. This will enable me to better support my family while working. I have the goal of completing my masters degree in social work and become a qualified social worker over the next two years.
Thank you very much for your help. I am grateful for your kind gesture. It means the world to my family. After so many challenges, catching a break feels special.
