Being reunited with my family has been most amazing. When I left Sudan, my wife was pregnant. I had not met my son until they arrived in the UK on 6th May this year. He is now 9 months old and is very smiley. He brings a lot of joy to my life!
With IT, I’ve always loved technology and discovering how things work. As a child, my parents really suffered as I’d always be taking apart every device in the house. Luckily, I’m good at fixing things as well!
The last 15 months have been a big challenge for me. I moved to the UK and learnt a new language. Getting back into work and being told ‘well done’ by my manager will really mean a lot. I’ve been studying and working in IT for almost 10 years now and had a good job before leaving my home country.
Before my family joined me, I had been staying on my friend's sofa. But it was impossible for us to all live there. My housing officer was brilliant and quickly found us temporary accommodation. My plan now is to secure work, save up and find somewhere more suitable for us.
Working means so much more to me than just having a job and a salary. Thankfully, computer programmes work the same throughout the world so this isn’t the daunting part - the last challenge I would like to achieve is for my family and I to stay living in London, rebuild our lives here, and really become part of the community.
