As an overseas medical doctor from Afghanistan, I applied for asylum in December 2021 and was granted Refugee Leave to Remain in August 2022. Upon receiving my status letter, I was informed that I needed to take certain actions, such as applying for Universal Credit and housing assistance from local authorities or charities. Since December 2021, I had been residing in a hotel in central London provided by the Home Office. However, the prolonged separation from my family added to the stress and anxiety, leading to burnout.
I raised my homelessness concern with the Job Center, and fortunately, they referred me to Beam for housing support. Through Beam, I received valuable advice from their knowledgeable and friendly staff, which proved to be timely and beneficial. I now reside in sustainable accommodation in a residential area, providing me with a sense of relaxation and peace of mind. Although my family (wife and children) are still apart from me, they were relieved and happy upon hearing the news of my accommodation being provided by Beam. They had been equally concerned about my housing situation.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the supporters of my campaign and Beam for their prompt actions in finding accommodation and providing financial support for essential living necessities. This support has made a unbelievable difference for me and my family.
