Having my first child made me look at life differently. Once I knew another life was depending on me, I had to stand up, take things seriously, and start setting a good example for my family.
Just over a year ago I was living in Scotland, renting my home and working hard to earn a living. All was going well until my papers expired. My country doesn’t have an embassy in Scotland, so I had to come to London to get things sorted. There were delays, so I ended up losing my job, my home, and sleeping on the streets. Being jobless with no money was horrible and one of the lowest points in my life.
When the pandemic and lockdown hit earlier this year, St Mungo's supported me and moved me into a hostel. They helped me get new papers and told me about Beam. It has felt great working with St Mungo's and Beam to take these first steps to getting back into work. I’ve always done manual work and I feel really motivated to get into a construction or warehouse job that will enable me to find somewhere of my own to live.
Working is not only good for earning money! It is good for the soul, gives you hope and creates a new future for you. Thank you for helping me on this journey.
