In February this year, the property myself, husband and 2 children have been renting for 9 years was sold to investors. The investors issued us with a Section 21 notice due to them requiring the house for their own personal use.
Over the last 7 months we have been trying our best to find somewhere for our family to live; both through private housing and council housing. With the current housing crisis, this has been very challenging. With the cost of living, we have found it extremely difficult to find something suitable and affordable. I have been working extra shifts alongside university and placements to try to make ends meet but am continuing to find this difficult as the landlord has sadly increased our rent by £300 per month following the Section 21. This has brought on so much stress and anxiety and it has impacted on my studies as well as family commitments. Working more hours has meant less time for my studies and children which has had an impact on my assignment results. It has also had a huge impact on my sons mental and emotional state as he has autism and ADHD. The prospect of the unknown for him has been a real struggle. He has began to struggle in school and has more outbursts.
The biggest challenge for us has been the cost of private renting. With myself being a full time student, the moving costs seemed too high for us to afford on top of everything else. However, being on the council’s potential homeless list for 7 months with no success has put extra strain on us trying to get money together as we have been worried that we would actually become homeless with 2 children.
I am excited to launch my Beam donations page because it means my family will be a step closer to being settled in our new home.
When we move into our new home, I would imagine I would feel happy and excited again about continuing with my nursing degree. A weight would be lifted from all of our shoulders and we will be able to concentrate on other things. My children will be able to thrive in school again, which to me, my children's happiness is the most important thing in life.
In 2 years time, I will be a qualified nurse. We will have began saving for our forever home. Our children will be happy, settled and content.
