My partner and I used to live in a comfortable apartment, but after she got pregnant, she lost her job and one unfortunate thing led to another. My family now live in an overcrowded room that’s been provided by the council. I lost my job at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and have not been able to find anything since. Looking for work on building sites is incredibly difficult right now, so I’m motivated to earn my qualifications so I can have more job security. We’re ready to start our new life as a family, and I’m ready to support my family financially.
Beam is helping me train to be a qualified electrician. Electricians get to use mathematics to solve problems in creative ways every single day, and this is really exciting to me. I’m grateful for the opportunity to undertake this training so I can learn new skills and build on my experience to progress.
When I get my first pay-check as an electrician, I want to spend it on swimming passes so that my partner and I can take my son swimming. Spending time with my family is the most important thing to me – we call it ‘special time’. I’m a loving father and partner and all I want is to give my first-born son a good life.
To anyone thinking of joining Beam: don’t dwell on your past but open yourself up sincerely to the great possibilities Beam has in store for you. Be happy and work hard to give back. I can’t wait until that time, when I will be able to help others with the same warmth and kindness that I’ve been given.
