I grew up Afghanistan, but after my father suddenly got ill and passed away, my home didn’t feel like home anymore. I didn’t like going back there. I was an interpreter with the British forces for a while, and I applied for a UK Visa but was told I had to stay in Afghanistan. The situation there was very complicated, and I knew I had to leave, so I escaped from Afghanistan and went to Italy.
Fleeing to Italy was one of the most difficult times of my life - starting the asylum process… it was very hard. I was there for 5 years, working in lots of different jobs, but now I’m in the UK and I’m ready to do something more purposeful and consistent.
When I was a child, my parents always told me “Noori, you have to think big” and that’s what I do. In Afghanistan I couldn’t follow my dreams because there was a war, and not much opportunity, but now I’m in the UK I want to do big things - have a positive impact and make a difference in the world.
I’m excited to see where this next part of my life takes me, and am happy to be working with Beam to help me get there.
