On February 24th, 2022, the war began in Ukraine. In the city where we lived, homes, work buildings, schools, and nurseries began to be heavily bombed - it was very scary at home. For safety, we stayed in basements for a week, but when a missile hit our house we made the very difficult decision to leave Ukraine to go to a safe place. Thanks to very good people, we came to the UK and got the opportunity to live, study and work. We lived with sponsors, but then we needed to move on and look for our own housing.
When we started looking for an apartment, we were faced with a number of questions including how would we afford a place to live. We had no savings and most landlords asked for several months' payment in advance. Also due to the fact that we had just arrived and had no credit history and no work, many did not want to rent to us. Even those who did want to help us couldn’t, because of circumstances beyond our control. In Ukraine, we had a house and a good job, but because of the war we started from scratch, and here we had to ask for help.
We were advised to use the Beam program. The team was very friendly and immediately began to help us. The guys answered all our questions with lightning speed and solved the problem. We are very grateful to Beam for its support and will recommend it to everyone we know who finds themselves in the same situation as us. In the future, we would like to become completely independent, learn to speak fluent English, find a good job, and help people who need help just like we do now.
