My dream is to one day work as a mental health nurse. I’ll need to be passionate, calm and patient. I have worked as a support worker in hospitals before and I found it so interesting. You meet so many interesting people, and every day is different!
I left my ex-partner in 2018 and I thought that it would be a good idea to come to London. I was naive. My daughter and I stayed with my cousin for over two years but the place was overcrowded. I had to ask the Council for help.
I haven’t been receiving benefits and instead have been relying on my income from some shifts with the NHS, helping to care for patients, but it’s difficult. Thankfully, the Council has now helped us to move into the private rented sector with financial support, and I’m looking forward to paying for the rent myself when I am in stable work.
When I get my first pay check, I’ll take my daughter out and buy her a treat. It will probably be a new doll - it’s been a while since I’ve been able to buy her a new one. It’s been difficult being a single mum and paying for childcare has held me back from finding work. Now I have Beam’s support, I feel happy - I have a big smile on my face!
