I have had an interest in fixing things since I was very young. I love stripping objects apart, figuring how they work and improve them. Becoming a mechanic was a natural step for me. It was a great fit and I enjoyed my work. I feel comfortable in the environment, I love everything from the comradery with my colleagues, to trying to solve huge mechanical issues with a vehicle.
Unfortunately, I have severe dyslexia which means I can not read or write without the support of special software on my devices. This has limited my progress in my career and meant that I was never able to gain formal qualifications and complete the admin side of the job. Unfortunately, as a result, I've recently lost my job and have been unable to get back into work. This has also impacted my housing situation and I found myself homeless. Sleeping in my car for shelter, was not nice for me.
I'm going to start by improving my literacy skills at college while working as a cleaner to build up some finances. Once I'm feeling confident enough, I will start a mechanics course so I can get the formal qualifications to move back into the role I'm passionate about.
I have three children, who mean the world to me, I just want to be able to provide a secure platform and future for them. Thankfully, I've been supported into stable accommodation now but I want to move to a place where I can have them stay over and we can spend time together. The only way I can do this is by getting back into work. My dream, I want to be able to sit down and read a bedtime story to my kids in a house that is mine bought with money from a company I own.
