I've had the idea to train as an electrician for a while now. My previous job was in delivery driving but that was a dark time for me. I've completely turned my life around over the past few years and I need to keep moving forward. This training gives me something positive to focus on. It will let me get into stable work where I can be giving something back.
Three years ago, I thought I couldn't live without alcohol. Drinking cost me my marriage, my work, and eventually my home. I had lost all hope when I tried to take my own life. But that rock bottom became my turning point. I was found by the police and offered help. I went to a detox centre and then rehab. It's now been over two years since I've had a drink. I've got a place to stay and I'm working on my goals.
I started volunteering with a recovery group which does DIY and upcycling. We all learn from each other and there's an electrician in the group who's been teaching me some things - see above! I've just finished rewiring some lamps. It's amazing to work on something practical and see the end result. I know this is the career I want to do. But becoming qualified is a hard route if you don't have any help. That's where your support comes in. I know I have what it takes. I'm eager to learn and get back in work. This course is my route to a new life.
