I'm looking to start work as a HGV driver because I've always liked driving. It's one of the earliest things that I can remember as a child - my dad asked me what I wanted to be when I was older, and I said a truck driver. At the time, it wasn't seen as an "ambitious enough" career path so I never pursued it. Now, I've completed my HGV test and practical and I just need to do my Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) so that I can start work.
I've had a turbulent few years with my housing situation. I've been street homeless and moved between different temporary accommodations. I'm fortunate in being able to say that the council have been so much help. They were able to move me from temporary accommodation into housing association and I've now been here for 2 months.
Now that I have a stable place to stay, this has allowed me to see my son more frequently and he's been staying over more. He's a huge part of my life. This field of work will also mean I have my evenings free and can still spend time with my son. I could also bring my son and dog along to work occasionally! I love the freedom of driving and the fact that you're constantly meeting new people.
In a few years time, I see myself progressing in this line of work and also pursuing something else in the evenings, that interests me. I'd like to be able to participate in the hobbies that I've let slide. I've always been into fitness and I would love to get into Brazilian jiu jitsu or judo again. I'd love to take my son along (and hope this will mean he can stop practicing on me and using me as a punching bag!)
