My family and I had to leave Afghanistan due to the ongoing war, and I was just 16 at the time. Growing up, all I had known was conflict and war. But when we arrived in the UK, I finally felt a sense of peace in my life. It was like hearing silence for the first time.
I've always had a strong desire to help people, so when I arrived in the UK, I began offering support by acting as a translator for those who weren't very confident in their English skills. It was my way of helping them overcome language barriers and improve their daily lives.
Now, I'm 18 years old, stepping into adulthood, and looking for a part-time job. I want to work and study while also supporting my family. My big life goal is to become a support worker, someone who can make a real difference in people's lives. With Beam's support, I'm hoping to land my first job. Having a laptop to help with job searches, clothes to make a good impression, and travel assistance to get to work and interviews would mean the world to me.
