I enrolled myself in college and have been studying the Level 2 course in Electrical Installations since September 2018 - I feel great about it! Gaining new knowledge and an understanding in a new subject is very fulfilling.
Over the last few years, I have turned my life around. Back in 2011, I was drinking heavily, lost my home and was roaming around the streets. One day, 3 years ago, I just decided enough was enough. My own willpower has carried me through. I changed my life with work. I found a job, stuck with it, and had a place to live. All was going well until my back injury.
I had been doing stone masonry, but a back injury has put me out of work for the last 7 months. This meant I couldn’t pay my rent, and I became homeless again. I am currently sleeping in night shelters. I have been assured that my back can get better, but I know in the meantime, I need to consider my injuries and train in a new profession. I decided that I wanted to become an electrician.
I really love to learn and study, so I spend my days either at college or in the library - I love the libraries in London! With the course, I first funded it with savings, but these are now finished. I applied for hardship loans, but would have been unable to make the final payment for the Level 2, so Beam are helping me with that. I am doing very well and am excited about all aspects of the science behind electrical technologies - I hope I can continue to progress further.
