I grew up in Ghana but I have lived in the UK for 22 years after I came here with my father. Everything was going well, and I had worked in warehouses before and I had started a career in construction which I really enjoyed. I was also renting privately here in London, and paying my rent on time. I had a wonderful life.
However, sadly everything changed in April 2021, when I had a heart attack. I had to have heart surgery and stay in hospital, and by the time I came out I had lost my job and I had nowhere to live. I had no recourse to public funds, so when I couldn't work, I couldn't pay rent any more. I was physically recovering and had to stay with a friend at their house, and I never left. He is getting married soon though, so I can't stay here for much longer as his wife will be moving in. It's all a bit unstable and I don't know where I will go next.
In order to change my life around I need a job so I can afford to move into my own place. My doctor has said that I can't go back in to working as a labourer full-time but working as a concierge or CCTV operator would be ideal for me.
