Hi, my name is Rahim. I've lived in a temporary hostel since December and I'm currently trying to move out of my borough. In July 2022, me and my mother had a falling out which led to me becoming homeless, though I am out of that abusive household, I still live very near to many family members of my mother and my abuser. Finally after months I was able to renew my passport, buy my birth certificate and a Deed Poll. I'm close to moving out; I just need to pay off my rent arrears.
In January 2023 I was diagnosed with ADHD and I'm on the waiting list to get diagnosed with Autism. I realised I had these conditions a few years ago but I wasn't able to ask to be referred until my 16th birthday in 2021.
My grades aren't fantastic for a multitude of reasons including being undiagnosed, abused, depressed and during college, homeless. My conditions, lack of experience and qualifications makes it more difficult for me to look for and gain a job. Despite this I'm excited to start working and saving up for my home and my health conditions.
My Beam campaign is to help me access the things that make searching for work that little bit more straightforward. Having a laptop to keep my CV updated, being able to afford travelling to interviews and the first month of work, and all those other things which often get taken for granted, will be made possible through this campaign.
My hope is that once I start a job, I'll be able to move out of the hostel and into a place of my own. I have a lot of ambitions in life, such as potentially becoming a tattoo artist. Stability is the aim right now but I'm not letting go of those longer-term ambitions. It's not been the easiest start to adult life but with your support, I know I can start changing things for the better!
