After working as a lorry driver for years I was offered an opportunity to join an exciting company in building maintenance and I went for it. Things started off well and I worked there for a long time. However, as the company grew the work environment became really stressful and I was beginning to feel the pressure. After 10 years I was made redundant. This was tough, I had put a lot of effort into this job and like that, it was gone.
Unfortunately, I did not update my HGV driving license while working in this role. This meant I had to start from square one again. I tried to update my licenses myself but it's just too expensive. Being out of work has put me in a precarious position as I'm not able to afford my rent at the moment. I've recently fallen into arrears.
I always enjoyed driving but know the training process can take time. I want to make sure I can provide for my family in the meantime. This is why I've decided to try a role in security while I'm completing my driver training. This means I can learn over a longer period of time and stabilise my situation at the same time.
