I’m so excited about starting my career as a dental nurse! Lots of my family members are nurses so I guess that it’s in my DNA. This job is all about being ready to assist and reassure. So I’ll be putting my organisation skills and helping nature to good use.
Steady work will mean the end of a tough period for me and my young daughter. Two years ago, after leaving a difficult relationship, we found ourselves with nowhere to stay. I had become isolated from family and friends, and didn’t know where to turn. Eventually I was placed in temporary accommodation. But with only part-time work and low wages, I struggled to pay the bills and fell into debt. I realised that training was the key to a new start. With the right qualification, I can find good work to pay the rent, and support me and my daughter. And thanks to St Mungo's who referred me to Beam for funding, this dream has started to become a reality!
This course is only the beginning. I want to work my way up to become a dental practice manager. Once I’m living in my own place, debt-free, I'll be looking for ways to give back. I’d love to start a project that helps other homeless single mums. Thank you so much for your support in making this first step.
