Seeing my son's smile is the most important thing in the world for me. And knowing he's happy because I’m able to provide for his needs and ensure he gets a great upbringing.
I became at risk of homelessness when my partner and son got kicked out of the place where they were staying. As I didn’t have room for them where I was, we had to go into emergency accommodation together as a family. It was difficult to begin with, as it's not nice having nowhere permanent to live, and some of the places we stayed weren't suitable for us. However thanks to my homelessness case worker at Islington Council, I was able to find permanent accommodation where I am now.
In two years' time, with the help of Beam, I hope that I will be in a stable job! And further down the line, when I have a very well paid job, I hope to be able to buy my flat. My main motivation for getting back into work is being in a position to help provide for my son's needs.
I want to work in security, as I don't like seeing bad things happen and want to be in a position of authority where I can do something about them when they do. I’ve got the skills for this work - I’m an alert person, I can spot a shoplifter a mile away. It’s natural to me. I’m also a great communicator, and I enjoy providing customer service when I’m working with the public. Security has great progression opportunities as well! One day I want to be responsible for looking after high worth individuals, that’s the dream.
Richie is working with Beam because he's been homeless in the last year.
