Despite the past few years having been very unsettled, I am determined that this is the start of a new beginning for me. Not being able to work due to a sudden change in my circumstances was very difficult, but I am excited at the opportunity to be able to re-build a solid foundation for myself and I hope that soon I will be able to bring my children over to join me in the UK.
I became homeless when my marriage ended and my immigration status changed. I was not able to return home for my safety, and was not able to work which led to a challenging time of sofa surfing and rough sleeping before I was placed in temporary accommodation. Knowing that I am now able to start looking for work again gives me so much hope for the future. It gives me back my drive and ambition to provide a solid foundation for myself and to help me be able to bring my children over to the UK to live with me, which I would love more than anything - being apart from them has been so difficult!
I would love to find a stable job as a support worker, as I know just how important it is to have someone support you when you really need it. I really enjoy being around people and especially like playing games with my friends (draughts is definitely my favourite!) so I’m excited as it might give me the chance to teach people some new games and bring joy to their lives! In the long term, my dream is to become an accountant. I began studying to be an accountant before I became homeless, so I would absolutely love to see that dream through to the end and make it a reality, despite the bump in the road! Having the chance to study accountancy whilst supporting people who need it will give me a purpose and mission again which I have missed.
