If I'm going to do something every day, I want it to be purposeful. Working in a necessary role right now is important to keep the country moving and it makes me happy that I can be part of the COVID-19 response. Admin work is something I enjoy and can take pride in, two things that are important to me.
I became homeless towards the end of last year. I spent a a few years volunteering with an NGO in Nigeria and when I came back to the UK, I couldn't find work straight away. I'm fortunate enough that I knew someone I could stay with for a while whilst I worked out what to do. It wasn't a set up that could continue long term and so I made the decision to look for help. It was a confusing time but asking for help and advice was the best thing I could have done. The council supported me to make a plan and we've now identified a place that's affordable if I claim benefits.
I don't want to be on benefits forever and my journey to be financially stable starts right now. I have a dream of starting my own business in the future. I don't think there's anything wrong with dreaming big but I know that sometimes you have to start small. Getting into work right now will help me pay the bills and rent in my new place without having to rely on others. I'm looking forward to a fresh start ahead.
