I moved to the UK over ten years ago with my husband. I've not been working for a long time because I had to look after my two young children, but I'm ready to work now!
My husband and I are currently bidding for a council house and have been since 2009. We’re currently in band three, but it's been almost ten years since we first started bidding and we’ve had no luck. I live in a one-bedroom flat with my two boys and my husband. I've been looking at other places we could move to, but all of them require a guarantor, which I just don’t have.
It's hard living in a one-bedroom place and having to share such a small space amongst four people. It’s especially hard for my kids to study and concentrate. I feel bad when I cook in the kitchen and they’re trying to study in the same room. That’s why I try to get all the cooking done straight after the school run, so that when my kids come home they can study in peace. It means I rarely have any time for myself, but my kids are my priority.
My dream is to find a job as a carer. I’m currently volunteering as a Family Support Worker, and I absolutely love it! I have experience looking after and caring for my own family, and I feel so happy when I help other people. The team at Beam are trying to help me, and in the same way I want to help other vulnerable people too.
My dream is to have a stable job, and to one day move to a bigger flat where my children can just be children.
