If you were one of the kind people who sponsored my Beam fundraiser a few months ago when I was desperate to find a home of my own, thank you, your encouragement inspired me. I’d become homeless for some years after being made redundant several times. Although it was a close call at times, the kindness of friends and even people I didn’t know that well, saved me from ending up on the streets.
Under the wing of Beam, I focussed on three main visions for myself. Having my own home, building on my existing skills to segue into Project Management, and becoming a prolific fiction writer. I’m here in my new living room. The sunlight is streaming through the windows, my plants are shining with health and my wind chimes are gently clinking. I can’t tell you how grateful I am that your generosity meant that I made it into a home of my own.
As for my second vision, lack of funds didn’t stop me from self-study, even whilst I was moving from one friend’s sofa to another’s floor. But I admit it was an uphill struggle with no teacher, colleagues, or mentors. Now, thanks to Beam, I can properly upskill into a project management role. I am looking forward to this new sideways shift. I’m looking forward to financial autonomy. I’m looking forward to doing useful and rewarding work.
And I continue my journey as a writer. Thanks to being settled, I have produced a few sentences shy of six chapters for my first novel. I’m in love with the characters I’m creating and the world they inhabit. Thanks to my local library, its resources and incredible staff, my magical world is making it onto the page.
I don’t know how to thank you enough, for reading this, for donating, and for your support. You’ll never truly know how huge an impact your attention, action, and generosity.
