My Beam journey started when I met Ruby - another Beam member! We met at the same night shelter and she told me all about Beam and how it could help me with my career plans - here I am!
I had to leave my home country, as it was no longer safe for me to stay. I slept on the streets in a small tent for 3 months in France. And after that I went to Belgium, where I slept in the train station for 43 days. Since I came to the UK things have begun to change for the better. I was homeless for 4 weeks, when a friend told me about the West London Mission. They first put me up in a night shelter and I now live in temporary accommodation. I am really happy about that!
Now I have my right to work, I can finally get started! Why tiling? I learned plastering, tiling and bricklaying from a friend at home and started working in the field. As a refugee on my journey to the UK my construction skills were really useful and I worked whenever possible.
I’m so excited about starting my new qualification as I love learning new things, like English! The TV show, Mrs Brown’s Boys has been one of the main ways I’ve been able to improve my English - it’s so funny too!
I’m determined to make my life better. When I picture my future, I see myself having a family and being able to really look after them. Being able to own a car and my own home will be very special.
