I have a good work ethic and I'm proud of what I've achieved. I came to the UK from Poland in 2017 and learnt English when I got here. I've always tried to have a job but it hasn't always worked out. As I don't have access to benefits, the moment I'm out of work is the moment that I stop earning enough to live on.
When I arrived in the UK I was staying with my dad. It wasn't the easiest place to be as my dad had a problem with alcohol. Eventually it became too testing on our relationship and I left. I found work in a car wash for a while but when that ended I didn't have any savings or a safety net so I had to start sleeping rough. I was in that situation until I was helped into a temporary hostel by the Single Homeless Project. I've been working with staff here to get back my independence by applying for jobs and getting support around a plan for the future.
I'm looking forward to getting my green CSCS card so that I can start looking for work within construction. I've done work in this area before so I know that I enjoy it. I like the practical element of it and staying active. I have a girlfriend so my future plan would be to save up some money and find somewhere for us to rent privately.
