I love interacting with new people as I think you can learn a lot from strangers. As a receptionist you get the chance to meet so many people every day, hear their stories and shape their experiences! I can’t think of anything better.
A few years ago I became homeless when I had to move out of my mum’s house due to overcrowding. There were so many of us living under one roof that tensions started to run high and my relationship with my family suffered. My daughter was 5 at the time and we had to approach the council to ask for help. We were moved into temporary accommodation which is where I’m still living. Having to move around all the time has definitely been the hardest part of this journey. My daughter is the most important person in my life and I want us to have a stable place to call home as she grows up.
One thing that inspired me to change my situation was seeing my sister work so hard to provide for my nephews. She’s a single mum like me and I watched her hold down a job whilst being an amazing mother. I want to do the same! I currently work part time in the reservations department for an events company but I can't fully support my daughter on the wage I get. I love the feeling that comes from being part of a team and I want to carry that with me as I progress into this new chapter and move into a solid career.
Completing this training will mean I can build on a career in hospitality with some qualifications behind me! I know I'll have to get some experience first but who knows where it'll take me in the future - hotel manager? I’ll be able to afford a place where I can make a home for my family and not have to worry about paying the bills or moving around all the time!
