I am a single mother from Ukraine who was forced to leave their country when the war began. I had to save my daughter but we lost everything in the process: our home, our friends, my job and any sense of normality. Moving to a new country whilst suffering with post war trauma was a real challenge for me. I only have a part-time job which places me in a difficult position financially as I am unable to afford a deposit and first month’s rent payment. On top of this, English is not my first language so I’ve been struggling to find a suitable property.
When I move into my new home I will feel comfortable and relaxed and I hope to finally become independent. At the moment, my daughter and I share one bedroom. It’s extremely important for my daughter to have her own space so she can do her homework in a quiet place.
My dream is for the war in Ukraine to end and for people to stop dying. Despite all of the sadness I've experienced, the continuous support of the people around me inspires me and gives me strength to go on to accomplish new things. This is such a significant change in mine and my daughter’s life and we are comforted to know that we are not alone in this.
