I found myself homeless after the Guardianship I lived in - an old hospital hospital building turned into cheap shared accommodation that was falling apart around us - gave me 3 weeks notice to leave the premises. The biggest challenge for me has been money, as I have no savings and had no idea they were kicking us out, and so the termination meant I had nowhere else to turn.
The last few years have been really difficult for me too, due to my health. I have very serious diabetes and rely on having a fridge to store my insulin, so being homeless is even more of a worry for me. I also have various other physical and cognitive disabilities that all add stress onto situations like this.
What I’m most excited about moving into my own place is the stability I can get from it, and having somewhere stable to sleep. It will be such a relief, as the fear of homelessness is just too great with everything going on. It gives me hope that people want to care for each other through services like Beam, and I am so thankful for your support.
