I’ve always had a passion for working with my hands and being active. Before COVID I had my own business and I was my own boss - what more could I ask for? Unfortunately, this was taken away from me and I found myself in a very vulnerable position. I had no job and no home to live in. I was homeless. Thankfully, I was supported by the local council and provided temporary accommodation.
When you're in temporary accommodation the environment is always unsettled and subject to change. It is really hard to build a sense of community or stability. You want to feel comfortable with your housemates and build a trusting and respectful relationship. This is not always possible as the range of people in the environment and constant change impacts the overall harmony. When I only had myself to worry about I could accept this situation, as I was grateful for just having somewhere to live. However, I recently found out I was going to be a father. It was a lightbulb moment and I knew this was not the environment I wanted my child to grow up in.
I’ve always worked in the trades and have built up a lot of skills in the area. I now need the right qualifications to support my ability and allow me to progress further within the industry so I can find secure employment. In two years time, I want to be progressing well within my role as a digger operator and privately renting accommodation for me and my family. This goal keeps me motivated and I am looking forward to repaying everyone’s faith in me.
