I have never been in this situation before. All I want is to continue with my normal life and build my career back-up. I became homeless in October last year. After years of steady work, I took a new job, but the work they asked me to do was beyond my experience and it was unsafe. Within 2 weeks, I was let go. Without being able to pay any rent, I could no longer stay with my parents.
Thankfully, I was accepted by the YMCA. This was literally life saving. I’ve been good at getting myself on the right track, but recently, all doors seemed to have stayed closed for me. Until now. I already have 4 years experience working as an an AV Engineer, so I’ve picked up vital skills and knowledge. But I never achieved a formal qualification within the industry. To be honest, I never even knew the qualification existed until the Beam team worked their magic and put me in touch with the training provider.
Starting my training will give me a real purpose and motivation. I've struggled to find new work at the level I know I'm capable of, but now I'll be able to pick up my career where I left off and progress faster and further in the long run. I finally know where I am heading and what I have to do to get there. I'm determined to make it out the other side, and leave homelessness behind. This qualification will allow me to get back into work, earn a good wage and be able to live in my own flat, whilst still investing in, and following my dreams.
