I often find myself around friends and family either watching movies or enjoying music. This naturally leads me to enjoy working in the catering industry, but during the pandemic, I have come to understand that I need to choose another pathway.
I became homeless when I chose to move away to try and turn over a new leaf. I had been battling with mental health and violence and had come to the point where I needed to make a change. Launching a Beam campaign will allow me to take the next steps without fear of not being able to follow through due to my living situation or lack of funds. I feel like I can take a deep breath and know I'm actually doing something worthwhile.
I want to be like Batman. As Batman was scared of bats, he faced his fear head-on. I used to have a fear of knives from being stabbed in the past, and now I want to use knives for good. At first, my hands started to shake when I held a knife and I didn't want to use them. I conquered this fear by starting holding them at home and then took this one step further by getting a job that required me to be around them. I started working as a kitchen porter, then moved up to a caterer and finally to an assistant chef.
My main motivation is to have a job and become independent. I've worked in a warehouse before where I was working with packages, so I know what the job needs. I feel it will allow me to pursue my dreams of owning a restaurant and give me a secure job during the current global climate.
