I first experienced homelessness when my ex-partner and I could no longer afford to pay the rent. After this, the landlord reclaimed the house and we were left without a home. I found this situation stressful and depressing. I just could not seem to focus and get myself going at all during this period. Lockdown really affected me and my children, being excluded from friends and family was not easy. One positive which came from the difficult situation was receiving support from my housing officer and being referred to be Beam.
Things started to improve once I received support and I was placed in emergency accommodation with my children. Following this, we were given some extremely helpful advice from the housing officer in charge which helped me begin to move in the right direction. Now I’ve gained some form of stability I want to get into work, so I can improve my finances and overall circumstances. Ultimately, I want to provide a better standard of living for my children.
Support work has always appealed to me. One thing that makes me happy is putting a smile on someone’s face. I want to help those in need and care for people around me. My life will be much better after being able to achieve a career of my choice, have a roof over my head and take care of my children.
