Before anything else, I want to be independent. I want to be able to earn my own money so I can pay for myself and support my son.
I'm sofa surfing, which I've been doing since March. This is because since the COVID-19 outbreak there hasn't been enough work for at the company I used to work for. I have continued to look for more work, but it is hard in the current climate.
Things were much better last year when I was in full time work as a delivery driver. It was a great experience earning a regular living. I was able to be there to support my son and put clothes on his back. When he asked me for something he needed, I'd be able to tell him I could get it to him the week after. Now I have to wait for my universal credit to come in.
I'm looking for construction work with Beam. It's something that really appeals to me. The main thing I like is that it's hands on - you're working outside rather than being stuck in an office somewhere. I much prefer hands-on physical work to doing something on a computer. I also like the teamwork aspect of it; the idea of working alongside others and completing a project together. I'm looking forward to getting started.
