This feels like the start of my journey to create a new life for me and my son. The first step is to get a place to rent that we can call home. Then, I hope to eventually be able to save enough for a deposit to buy a house that will really be ours.
I was sofa surfing when I became pregnant last year. This meant I had to move out because it would have been too crowded for all of us there. Throughout the pregnancy, I stayed with the father of my son's mum because I don't really get on with my own mum. Once my son arrived, I approached the council for help and they explained my options of temporary accommodation and private rented to me. I really wanted to find private rented so I could stay close to my support network and the area I knew already.
Having a baby has been one of the biggest challenges I've had to overcome. I was working as a Business Administrator but am now on maternity leave and my pay is reducing which has made it challenging to find anywhere to rent. Having support through Beam to find somewhere makes my heart feel warm and I really hope this will be the first step to my son having a good and stable life.
