I've been in the UK for the last 4 years or so, but I had a difficult time when I arrived here. I was in a very abusive relationship and my ex-partner abused me emotionally, physically, and financially. He knew where I was working, and I had to leave my job, so I was starting to find it extremely hard to cope, and I just wanted to end everything.
Thankfully, I was able leave him in 2019 and sought support from the organisation Solace Women's Aid. They were able to support me, and during this time I was moving around quite a lot to different hostels and trying to find my feet. I was then supported by the team at Thames Reach and they've been able to find me a place to live for now. I'm feeling better now, and even though things are still tough, I'm managing to smile. I have a wonderful community around me with my church and it helped me to stay strong.
I am currently in the process of completing my Door Supervisor course, but I am really keen to get my CCTV licence and become a CCTV Operator one day. I'm really keen to start a job as although my rent is covered by my benefits, I have only a small amount of money left over at the end of the month. I really appreciate the help from Beam and my supporters, as this support is essential for me to start work again.
