My children make me happy, mischief and mayhem. They helped me understand what unconditional love means. Nature is my healer and I love exploring woodlands, rivers and parkland. My heart has always belonged to books, especially history, crime fiction and spy novels. I also enjoy writing, learning and discovering new places, people and ideas. I'm naturally curious, like Alice.
My housing situation became more unstable after my separation over two years ago. In two years I have moved 7 times. It becomes very unsettling and planning without any certainty becomes more challenging. A series of business reversals compounded by the current COVID pandemic has made it more difficult to move forward. I’m current sofa surfing but risk putting the others I live with at risk by returning to work, so I will continue to be unemployed unless I find a secure environment to live.
A pivotal moment in my life was in deciding to volunteer for National Association of People Abused in Childhood, NAPAC, and come to terms with my own childhood trauma. Becoming a telephone support volunteer helped me gain perspective, gave me insights and created a bond through shared experience. Ultimately, it also instilled in me a desire to support and guide other men who have experienced either trauma in childhood or trauma in later life.
For me, work has always been about being of service and trying to support and guide others. Reflecting on both my commercial experience and my natural communication and rapport building skills, I am attracted to the wide range of opportunities within the security industry. Security work is challenging, diverse and requires you to draw on alternative forms of communication to manage complex and volatile situations. I relish that challenge and the opportunity to strengthen my communication skills and gain greater insight into human behaviour.
