I've been in the UK since 2004 but I was only recently granted my indefinite leave to remain, and my right to work at the end of 2022. I've been volunteering with my local church working with homeless people and in charity shops for years, but now I can, I am ready and determined to find a paid job.
When thinking about what I want to do with my life and career, firstly I just want a job as soon as possible, then it will give me some more time to develop my skills and make a plan for my future. I know that in my job I want to be active, and show everyone that I can work hard and prove myself.
When I lived in Uganda, I ran my own successful women's clothing business with two employees which was a steep learning curve for me at the time. I'd love to work again and use my strengths wherever I can.
One barrier for me right now is that I'm currently not that experienced with technology. I've just learned how to speak with my Beam caseworker via Zoom, which is wonderful, but support with a laptop, a CV and advice on how and where to look for work would be an incredible next step for me.
