The last couple of years haven't been easy. I'm so grateful for the support to get into work and get some additional income in for me and my family. It is difficult to try and provide for your children whilst also training to be a nurse and living in temporary accommodation.
It has always been my dream to be a nurse. It all came from my past - I lost my mum to mental health and cancer. We didn't have a very good healthcare system in Africa and I spent a lot of time looking after her. While looking after her, I used to help other patients and saw what a difference it makes to have someone who wants to help and support you. I now want to be that person for as many people as possible. I am happiest when doing something for someone else, even in my classes I always try and help other students.
As well as finishing my degree and being a nurse, I'd love to be financially independent in the future and have a stable home with my children around me. Long term I'd love to specialise in mental health because I know how important it is to have the right care and people to help. Having support like Beam is wonderful, it has really made me feel valued and reminded me that people really do care.
