Hi Beam community! My name is Danii and I am so excited to be able to tell my story. This is my chance to show my journey to people and by doing this, I know that I don’t have to do this all alone.
I have had a challenging past. I have been the victim of domestic violence from my mum for nearly all my life. This has affected my mental health and made me have a lot of anxiety. The biggest challenge I have had to face was overcoming this and I am proud to say I was finally able to flee from domestic violence from my mother at the age of 25. It took a lot of courage.
I am now working to rebuild my future. I have always had a strong passion for giving back to the community and being able to make a difference in people's lives. This is why I want to work in Social Care.
My brothers and I were once in care when I was 10 for under a year and my Social Worker inspired me since then. I wanted to apply for a Social Work degree but my A-level qualifications were not high enough and I have not had sufficient experience in social work to get accepted for the course.
So I opted for a degree that would get me in the door with young people, which is Youth Work. Now that I will be graduating at the end of July, I feel like it is the best time for me to get into Social Work. I have some experience as a Youth Worker, Summer School Manager and now shadowing a Children’s Independent Domestic Violence Advocate, and my passion is to help young people who are experiencing domestic violence and hopefully one day open a hostel for young people and single mothers.
In two years, I hope to have a stable job where I’m helping young people or women who are facing domestic violence as well as a place I can call my own that acts as a safe space.
