For me, kindness is what makes the world go round. I've had a tough year, but the kindness of others means that I now have the hope and motivation to leave my past behind me and better my situation.
I became homeless when I lost my job this year. Because of the pandemic, finding another job felt impossible and it left me without an income. It meant that I couldn’t contribute to the rent where I was staying and I was forced to leave. The experience taught me that homelessness can happen to anyone. Luckily I was helped by a charity who connected me with the council. I’m now in temporary accommodation where I’m trying my best to look for work.
My accommodation is not permanent but staying somewhere that I can access support has been a lifeline. Getting a job will mean I can work towards being financially independent and it will restore my confidence after a difficult time. I have experience working in hospitality so looking for work in a supermarket suits me. I love chatting to customers and I'm quick at dealing with problems in a calm way.
Once I'm in stable work, my goal is to save some money and then move into a flat of my own. In the longer term I'd like to become more proficient with computers and different admin tasks. Having a different set of skills will bolster my CV and means I'll have more career options in the future.
