I’ve got two babies who mean the world to me. Some of the happiest moments in my life so far have been in the past couple of years. But it's been very difficult as a single mother. I don't have friends or family here. Most of my friends are back home in South Africa, so it can get very lonely.
I worked in the construction industry for 10 years and I was doing very well for myself. I’d climbed quite high up the ladder and was soon to study a Quantity Surveying degree, but then covid happened. I was made redundant and I became pregnant with my little girl quite soon after. I decided not to pursue another job because I had serious complications with childbirth and I had to take a year off.
Finding my feet again and getting back into work, especially while juggling childcare, has been tricky. I’m really grateful for Beam’s support with childcare costs, it will mean I can finally get back into work and have one less thing to worry about! I want to give my children everything they want and give them a good future. After everything I've been through, I really want to pursue a career where I can give back and support vulnerable people. Life can be tough sometimes, so it's really important to lend a helping hand where you can.
In the long-term, I want to do a cyber security training course alongside working part-time because it will mean in the future I can be independent and work for myself. I've got some experience in this field already and really want to build on it!
