I fell in love with London when I visited during the Olympics in 2012. Wanting to explore this city further, I visited once again in 2014 to study the culture, work ethic and civic services. I was attracted to it all, and found to my amazement that the city provided great care to its senior citizens. I packed my bags and arrived to settle here permanently in 2015.
When I arrived, I rented a single room for myself and worked many hours a week in order to sustain myself. I unfortunately developed asthma and other ailments, which meant I had to shield during the Covid restrictions and I was therefore unable to work. This impacted both my earnings and savings. I lacked guidance and support and this was a very depressing, stressful and frustrating time for me which further aggravated my health condition. On top of this my landlord was threatening to evict me. Without access to benefits, rent prices soaring, and lack of available rooms, I was left practically homeless and penniless.
When we are young, we are confident things will work out but when we are old and sick, we lose hope as our body and mind are out of sync! Only the homeless know the value of a roof over our head. The journey with Beam has been uplifting and given me a real confidence boost. Moving into a new home will improve my life and I hope this will make a positive impact on my physical health too. In the future, I want to give back to the community by doing charitable work. I would also love to travel if my health and money permit this. I want people to know about the honourable work that the Beam team does, along with my miracle donors. This special kinship has welcomed stability into my life.
