In the future, I want to have my own place and to move into a job in woodcraft. These are the central goals I’m working towards.
In 2016 I went through a period of depression and anxiety that caused a great deal of problems in my life. I was in critical need of support, and thankfully local support services came in to assist with my recovery. I was helped to integrate back into society and engage in social activities based on my hobbies and interests. I’ve also been helped into vocational training where I’ve been studying woodcraft, something I really enjoy.
The lockdown has been really disruptive to my life. It has interrupted my level 3 bench joinery course and cut out many of the central elements of my recovery programme. It's been a challenge to stay on top of everything.
Nevertheless, I’ve come a long way in my recovery. I’m now based in my family home where I have full-time caring responsibilities for my mother. I'm working with Beam to get a place of my own where I can have my own space. From here, I'll continue caring for my mother and then return to my woodcraft training once the college reopens.
