Since moving to the UK I've had to take any jobs available to get by. As an engineer, I've been able to get odd self-employed style jobs but nothing that offers me security and benefits. I would prefer to be employed as it offers greater protection and support.
A few years ago, I decided to look for more secure employment in security. The training is expensive but I thought it was a worthwhile investment for my long-term future. I completed the training and applied for the license. Unfortunately, during the application process, my passport was lost. I was distraught. All I received was a letter of apology. At this stage, I had very little money left and did not have enough to apply for a replacement passport.
This situation was challenging and without a steady income, I struggled to maintain a stable living environment. This meant I spent a few years sofa surfing and rough sleeping. Whatever I could do to get by. Thankfully, I was connected with the Barons Court Project who supported me with some temporary accommodation and referred me to Beam.
Now I have a platform I want to restart my SIA training and application process. Then I can finally move into my desired career and begin to build a brighter future.
