I came to the UK by myself two years ago after fleeing danger in my home country. I had to leave my family behind and didn’t speak any English or know anybody here. It was very difficult at first, but I had a very supportive key worker and am now at college to improve my English. I’m currently living in a hotel but am worried that I will be forced to leave soon.
My dream is to learn more and go to university, and to see my family again one day. I want to be a nurse, to be working and living a nice life. The country I am from is famous for its coffee – I love coffee! – so maybe I will open a coffee shop one day too.
I have always wanted to be a nurse and I like to help people, but in the meantime I would like to get a job as a support worker, as it will be a very good experience for me and is similar to nursing.
Going to college is a nice distraction from the serious life, and talking to my friends and being kind to them makes me happy. I like going swimming in the summer, and also enjoy watching movies to help me learn English; before this I liked Turkish movies because they are good family dramas!
In the future I want to be a good English speaker, to have a house and to be a good student and have a good job. Mainly I would just like to be independent!
Knowing that there are people who want to support me feels really good. It gives me confidence to go out and look for work.
