My mum's happiness is the most important thing to me. My mum has been with me every step of the way and I really value the time I get to spend with her and the rest of my family.
I moved to the UK from Iraq in 2016 as an asylum seeker from the civil war in my country. I arrived with my mum and then moved between London and Scotland for several years staying with Kurdish families who were able to support me. Last year I moved to London permanently and my mum and I were living in temporary accommodation provided to us by Greenwich council. We stayed there for just under a year, until we had to move into a private rented flat. I am currently living and caring for my mum in a one bedroom flat, but I don't have my own room and the stairs to the flat are dangerous for my mum as she is disabled.
I want to do my construction training to get my CSCS card and then specialise in railway construction. I find this kind of work very fulfilling as I really enjoy working outdoors. In the future, I hope to make a career out of railway construction, and earn enough money to be able to buy my own house. I want to be able to afford a place where my mum and I can live comfortably, and have somewhere that we can call our home.
