I have been living in the same house for the last 9 years with my wife and our four children. For two years, we have been facing some issues with our home and I had to complain to the council because my landlord was not doing the necessary repairs. The toilet hardly functions and the heating doesn't work, so it has been a real struggle, especially with the weather now getting cold. When the landlord sent surveyors to estimate the cost of repairs, it transpired that the roof needs a lot of work. The landlord then sent us an eviction notice, so that the necessary repairs can be carried out.
I'm working hard and we are raising four teenagers - it has been challenging to keep them happy when we are all so stressed with our living conditions and the nagging uncertainty about where we will live. I've been searching for properties and have not had much luck so far.
Knowing that we will soon have a home feels like a huge burden has been lifted from my shoulders! I am excited to show my wife our new home. This is possible with the support of my Beam, my caseworker and the donations we receive from generous people. It feels amazing knowing that there are people with big hearts who will help me to help my family to live in a warm and comfortable environment, so that we can be at our best and the kids can focus on their school work.
In two years, I hope that I will still be working in a job I enjoy, my kids will be enjoying their studies and the eldest will be at university, coming home in the holidays to a warm and comfortable family home.
