I like to laugh a lot and to be around people all the time who I can talk with. When I used to be a carer, I would spent maybe 30 minutes with clients, and it brought me so much joy to connect with them while also supporting them.
I came here with my kids four years ago. We moved here from Germany because we had a friend who said we could stay with them. However that experience ended badly, with the person using my name to take out many credit cards. The police were involved and I had to leave, spending the next years living with other friends and in temporary accommodation.
In summer last year, Southwark Council helped us to find a home we could stay in. It was so nice to have a place to live, as a family! However after the COVID-19 lockdown started, the company I was working for cut a lot of the carer positions, including mine. I've struggled to find more work as the children have been at home full-time, so I spend a lot of my day looking after then. Since I lost my job, I haven’t had enough to pay for everything, including the rent. I've tried to look for work in this time, but it's been hard with the children being at home now. It’s a very uncertain place to be when you can’t pay for your home. You end up thinking everyday, crying and spending sleepless nights wondering if it will ever end.
I want to get back into work as a carer so I can improve my current circumstances. I am in a good position to help others; my life has been uncertain, but my mind remains strong! Southwark Council have helped me to find this place and I’m very grateful to them. Now I want to get a job so I can earn for myself, continue to have a good place to call a home and see my kids being happy.
Beam are supporting me to find work by introducing me some employers and helping me to do applications. I look forward to waking up each morning and going out to my job knowing that I don’t have any problems with paying rent and bills. I will feel much happier.
