Nick's campaign has fully funded! 🎉 A Beam employee is now supporting him on his journey through training and into work as a barber.
But other Beam members need your help. Support the greatest number of homeless people to train up and get into work by giving monthly.
I’m now a qualified barber! Thanks for all the support I’ve had throughout my journey, it feels so good to have actually completed something. Plus I’ve never had a qualification in my whole life so I’m very happy.
The next step for me was to find work. Once I collected the laptop funded by all my amazing supporters, I was able to search for work. Within less than a hour I had two responses. The boss of one shop saw that I had a qualification and also saw the haircuts I’d done at the academy and liked my work. I went for a trial day and they offered me part time work straightaway, which is perfect for me at the moment!
It feels great to be working again, I’m gaining confidence and my life is coming together so well.
Especially when I think back to last year when I was still homeless and on drugs, I'm so grateful to you all and can’t say in words how happy I am. 😁
My course deposit was raised so quickly that I was able to start my training a couple of weeks after launching my campaign. 🏃🏽 Because of my previous experience I was put onto the fast-track course and I've already gained my NVQ in barbering!!
Prior to the course I was a bit nervous but also very excited. Once I started, the nervousness went away and it felt really good being back in a barber shop atmosphere. It was great to be learning new techniques and skills and the educators are amazing!
I worked really hard and got a distinction on my certificate. 🎉🎉
Thank you so much to all my donators for the support as well as to the entire Beam Team. Everyone's been so good along every step of this journey so far and I'm so grateful! 🙏
It feels very exciting to be setting my campaign live and starting my journey back to work. I’m looking forward to learning new things and getting involved. I’m not even nervous, only excited. If it wasn’t for Beam I wouldn’t be in the position I’m in now - getting ready to start my course and get all my barber tools!

Too often homeless people are forced to lie out of sheer desperation. We think it's better when relationships are built on trust and honesty. Beam verifies each member in 4 ways:
1. Referral: every member of Beam is referred by a registered homelessness charity or local authority.
2. Interviews: before their campaign launches, each member is interviewed twice by a Beam Member Manager.
3. References: we take references on each member from the charity who refers them and someone in a position of responsibility.
4. Profile: we take great care to verify information in a member's story is true.
It's your money.
We work hard to ensure that you can give confidently.
A caseworker or "Member Manager" is an employee of Beam who helps those referred to Beam to plan a crowdfunding campaign and supports them through training and into work.
All Member Managers are trained professionals who specialise in supporting vulnerable adults by focusing on their strengths and abilities.
