The start of beam

Alex meets Seb
Alex was a tech entrepreneur with a passion for social impact. Seb was looking to bring tech to frontline services after 8 years in homelessness and healthcare.
First person supported by Beam: Tony
Beam started with a simple idea: what if the public could directly fund someone's path out of homelessness? We built the world’s first crowdfunding platform, with a 100% giving model, that supported over 5,000 people into jobs and homes.
Tony, for example, had spent decades out of work and without a stable home. Beam helped him train as an electrician and leave homelessness for good.


Beam brought frontline services into people's pockets
Alex and Seb saw people struggling to attend in-person services, but realised they could be accessed via mobile phones. Beam put frontline services onto smartphones for the first time.

London boroughs begin referring people to Beam for housing and employment support, recognising that smartphone-first services can reach people traditional provision often misses.

Covid-19 puts new strain on people Beam supports
We repurpose our tech to meet the emergency needs of homeless families, distributing thousands of support packages. Our NHS partnership is featured on the Times Square billboard.
Beam wins an enterprise award from the Queen
We win the Queen’s Award for Enterprise - and WIRED names us one of the hottest startups in London.

A milestone that reflects our growth. More people than ever are accessing Beam's services, and we're supporting record numbers into stable housing and employment.
Beam develops its first AI tool for our own frontline teams
Our services are growing but our caseworkers are stretched, manually writing up thousands of case notes a month. We build the first version of Notes to handle the documentation so they can focus on the people they support.


Beam’s tech is embraced by Local Government
Soon, most UK local authority social care teams are using Notes. It works, and word spreads fast. We expand into to housing, employment, mental health services and beyond.
Beam’s tech is adopted around the world
Our tech has been used for over 1 million meetings. We establish partnerships in Europe, Australia and the US, with a waiting list of partners looking to launch.
